College of Health Sciences Scholarships

The College of Health Sciences is a specialized and professional academic unit. The college offers programs in health-related disciplines that prepare professionals, with a strong liberal arts background, to enter health-related careers. Graduates of the undergraduate and graduate programs in the college are prepared to effectively address a wide range of diversity in the delivery of healthcare. Graduates are also schooled in opportunities for physical activity for the purpose of maintaining and improving health as well as a feeling of well-being.

Unless otherwise indicated with a message in green text, all scholarships listed here have been awarded for the 2024/2025 year.  Watch in early March 2025 for announcements and postings of available scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Dr. Gere B. Fulton '60 Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Gere B. Fulton '60, recipients may be enrolled in any major within the College of Health Sciences.  Recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  Selected by the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.

Dr. Jonathan A. Goldner Annual Scholarship
Established by Dr. Brenda Friday and Dr. Nancy Weaver in honor of Dr. Jonathan A. Goldner, who has been practicing medicine in the Pocono Region since completing his residency in 1987.  Currently the Chief of Medical Executive for Medicine and Chronic Disease at Pocono Medical Center, he was named the Center's Physician of the Year in 2006 and was presented with the Greater Pocono Mountains Chamber of Commerce Humanitarian of the Year award in 2015.  While passionate about his work with patient care, Dr. Goldner is involved in the development of new programs for PMC and devoted to annual medical missions to Guatemala where he volunteers as a medical officer with the federal New Jersey-1 Disaster Medical Team.  Scholarship recipients may be enrolled in any major within the College of Health Sciences and must have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum overall GPA of 3.5.  Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  Selected by the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.

Dr. Mildred L. Wood '42 Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Mildred L. Wood '42, recipients may be enrolled in any major within the College of Health Sciences excluding those relating to teacher certification, coaching and pedagogy.  Recipients must be undergraduate students in good academic and social standing.  Selected by the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.

ATHLETIC TRAINING

Athletic Training Annual Scholarship
Established by Dr. Gerard Rozea, Chairman of the ESU Athletic Training Department, recipients must be majoring in Athletic Training.  Recipients may be full-time or part-time students and may be undergraduate or graduate students.  Incoming students to the program are also eligible.  Selected by the Athletic Training Department Scholarship Committee.

George Edward and Grace Rapp Best Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of George Edward and Grace Rapp Best, recipients must be majoring in Movement Studies or Exercise Science. Students must be at least sophomores with a minimum overall GPA of 3.4. This award rotates between Athletic Training, Physical Education and Exercise Science majors and, therefore, is not available to each department each year. This scholarship is renewable for one year as long as the recipient continues to meet all criteria. Selected by the ESU Athletic Training, Physical Education, and/or Exercise Science Scholarship Committee.

David Carlyon Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of David Carlyon, recipients must be majoring in Athletic Training. Recipients must have an outstanding academic and clinical record, commitment to pursuing Athletic Training as a primary career choice and a NATA membership (one year). Academic excellence in the Athletic Training Education Program is required, as well as, completion of 45 credits and professional phase admission. Selected by the Athletic Training Department Scholarship Committee.

Dr. John Thatcher ’69 ATEP Founder’s Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Athletic Training Research and Education Foundation and the friends of Distinguished Professor Emeritus John R. Thatcher, recipients must be majoring in Athletic Training.  Students must have completed at least 45 credits and Professional Phase Admission and have exhibited academic excellence in the Athletic Training Education Program.  Additionally, recipients must have an outstanding academic and clinical record, commitment to pursuing Athletic Training as a primary career choice and a NATA and PATS membership (1 year).  Recipients must also have endorsement by an approved clinical instructor and have the following personal characteristics such as integrity, enthusiasm, leadership, cooperativeness and empathy.  Financial need is a consideration, but not a requirement.  Selected by the ESU Athletic Training Scholarship Committee.

Professor Emeritus Lois E. Wagner ’71 Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Athletic Training Research and Education Foundation and the Friends of Professor Emeritus Lois E. Wagner ’71, recipients must be majoring in Athletic Training.  Recipients must have an outstanding academic and clinical record, commitment to pursuing Athletic Training as a primary career choice and a NATA and PATS membership (1-year).  Also must have endorsement by an approved clinical instructor and have the following personal characteristics such as integrity, enthusiasm, leadership, cooperativeness and empathy.  Additionally, recipients must have completed at least 45 credits and Professional Phase Admission.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the Athletic Training Department Scholarship Committee.

COMMUNICATION SCIENCES & DISORDER

"Coco" Moon Memorial Annual Scholarship
Established in memory of Colleen "Coco" Moon '12 M'14, recipient must be a graduate student majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders who is in good academic and social standing. Selected by the ESU Communication Sciences & Disorders Department Scholarship Committee. 

Doris and Mark Shuey Endowed Scholarship
Established in the names of Doris and Mark Shuey, recipients must be graduate students majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  Recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  Preference given to students from rural areas like Northumberland, Schuylkill and Dauphin counties in Pennsylvania.  Applicants are required to submit an essay sharing their interpretation of lack of access to health care and health care needs in rural America.  Selected by the ESU Communication Sciences & Disorders Department Scholarship Committee.

Jenna Vatalaro Tragedy Fund Annual Scholarship
Established in memory of Jenna Vatalaro by her parents Kevin and Terry Vatalaro, recipients must be majoring in Communication Sciences & Disorders. Recipients must be full-time students with demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid.) Preference will be given to students who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Selected by the ESU Communication Sciences & Disorders Department Scholarship Committee.

Dr. Eli Berman Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Eli Berman, recipients must be majoring in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Science.  Students must be graduate students.  Selected by the ESU Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Science Scholarship Committee.

Established by Dr. Deborah L. Gebhardt '69, recipients must be majoring in Exercise Science or Physical Education.  Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have completed at least 60 credits.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required.  The scholarship is renewable for up to two years provided the recipient continues to meet all criteria.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Thomas F. and Charmaine (Adams) '73 Reider Annual Scholarship
Established by Thomas F. and Charmaine (Adams) '73 Reider, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education, Health Education or Exercise Science.  Recipients may be undergraduate or graduate students who are in good academic and social standing.  Preference will be given to students with financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) but it is not required.  The scholarship is renewable.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Dr. Robert '62 and Mrs. Nancy Serfass Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Robert '62 and Mrs. Nancy Serfass, recipients must be graduate students majoring in Clinical Exercise Physiology.  Recipients must be in good academic and social standing who exhibit strong morals.  Preference will be given to students with financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  This scholarship is renewable to the student as long as they continue to meet the criteria.  Selected by the ESU Exercise Science Department Scholarship Committee.

David '70 and Bonnie '72 Childs Health and Physical Education Annual Scholarship
Established by David '70 and Bonnie '72 Childs, recipients must be majoring in Health and Physical Education.  Students must be undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credts and who are in good academic and social standing.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required.  The scholarship is renewable as long as funding is available and the recipient continues to meet all criteria.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Class of 1937 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1937, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and demonstrated excellence in academic performance.  Financial need is a consideration.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously. 

Class of 1938 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1938, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and GPA of 3.0 in their major.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously. 

Class of 1940 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1940, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have demonstrated academic excellence.   Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1942 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1942, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1945 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1945, recipients must be an undergraduate student preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1947 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1947, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously. 

Class of 1954 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1954, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Preference will be given to full-time students whose parent or grandparent were a member of the Class of 1954.   Financial need is a consideration but not a requirement.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1955 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1955, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Recipients must be a full-time students, have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 GPA in their major.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1958 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1958, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Must be a full-time student undergraduate student who is a United States citizen, has completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 GPA in their major.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1962 Annual Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1962, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following: Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, and Secondary or Special Education. Must be a full-time undergraduate student and have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA. The scholarship may not be available to every department every year and is awarded in conjunction with the Class of 1962 Endowed Scholarship (to the same student). Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Class of 1962 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1962, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following: Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, and Secondary or Special Education. Must be a full-time undergraduate student and have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0.Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA. The scholarship may not be available to every department every year. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

ESU Health Studies Annual Scholarship
Established by Mrs. Donna Salch '96 and Dr. Richard Salch, Professor Emeritus, recipients must be majoring in Public Health with a preference to students majoring in Community Health.  Recipients may be part-time or full-time students and may be undergraduate or graduate students.  Undergraduate students must have completed at least 60 credits and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Additionally, recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  Selected by the ESU Health Studies Scholarship Committee.

Feldman/Mellner Health Education Endowed Scholarship
Established by Edith Mellner, recipients must be majoring in Health Studies.  Students must have attained at least sophomore status, but must not possess a bachelor’s degree in any field, and have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and 3.2 GPA in their major.  Additionally, recipients must have formally declared their major field of study to be Allied Health Education or Health Education with a concentration in either School Health of Community Health.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Health Studies Scholarship Committee.

Vicki Moldovan '72 Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Vicki Moldovan ’72, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education.  Students must have completed at least 60 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Additionally, recipients must be female and participate in a varsity sport at ESU.  Selected by the ESU Physical Education Scholarship Committee.

Pinky O’Neil '57 Honorary Ms. Senior America Annual Scholarship
Established by Sandra “Pinky” Fees O’Neil ’57, recipients must be majoring in Health Education, Physical Education or Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification. Recipients must have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum 2.75 GPA with preference given to female students. Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required. The scholarship is renewable as long as the student continues to meet all criteria. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Pinky O’Neil '57 Honorary Ms. Senior America Endowed Scholarship

Darleen Schaare Schott '63 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Darleen Schaare Schott ’63, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education with preference given to Physical Education majors. Recipients must be female students in good academic and social standing. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Tichy Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Michael W. Tichy ’48 and his wife Dr. Anna Mae Tichy, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education. Students must have completed at least 30 credits at ESU with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Additionally, recipients must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students who will not graduate before the end of the spring semester of the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded. Real and evident financial need (not formula need) shall be a factor only in the case of equally qualified candidates. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Dr. Carol S. Underwood ’58 Health Education Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Carol S. Underwood, recipients must be majoring in Health Education.  Students must have completed at least 90 credits, with 30 credits earned from ESU, with a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Priority will be given to teacher certification candidates.  Additionally, the recipient must be involved in campus activities and/or community services in health, with priority given to involvement in health education activities.  Selected by the ESU Health Education Scholarship Committee.

Diana E. Weaver '57 Annual Scholarship
Established by Diana E. Weaver '57, recipients must be majoring in Health Education or Physical Education.  Students may be undergraduate or graduate students.  Undergraduate students must have completed at least 30 credits.  Recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  Recipients may receive the scholarship in subsequent years provided it is available and they continue to meet all criteria. NURSING

Jennifer M. Ahrens '94 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Jennifer M. Ahrens '94, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Recipients may be undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credits or graduate students in good academic and social standing.  Additionally, recipients must exhibit leadership, drive and compassion for caring for people.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee. 

Stanley and Lydia Evans Public Servant Annual Scholarship
Established by Pamela M. Evans '78 in loving memory of two of the most giving people who were also public servants, Stanley and Lydia Evans, recipients may be majoring in nursing or secondary education teaching.  Recipients may be undergraduate students who have completed at least 60 credits or graduate students.  A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required, as well as, financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).  Recipients graduating in December may receive the entire award in the fall semester.  The scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient continues to meet all criteria and funding is available.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.
 
Marguerite Rossiello Lawrence '96 Annual Scholarship
Established by Marguerite Rossiello Lawrence '96, recipients must be majoring in nursing.  Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students that have completed at least 60 credits with a GPA of at least 3.0.  Priority will be given to ROTC nurse cadets, veterans, and children/spouses of veterans.  If there are not candidates with ROTC or veteran affiliations, the recipient selected must exhibit leadership and participation in ESU and community activities.  The scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient continues to meet the criteria and funding is available.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee.

Dr. Irene Mitchel Nursing Endowed Scholarship honoring members of her family being educated in the nursing and medical profession
Established by Dr. Irene Mitchel to honor the members of her family being educated in the nursing and medical profession, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students who have completed at least 75 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application so that the scholarship is received during the recipient's senior year.  Additionally, recipients must have a recommendation from ESU faculty.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee.

Beth Herman Moses Nursing Annual Scholarship
Established by Beth Herman Moses, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Recipients must be undergraduate students who have completed at least 60 credits.  Additionally, recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  The scholarship is renewable provided the recipient continues to meet all criteria and funding is available.  Recipients graduating in December may receive that year's full award in the fall semester.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee. 

Outstanding Nursing Award
Established by the ESU Foundation, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Recipients must be graduating seniors with a minimun GPA of 3.25 who satisfy the objectives of the Nursing Program.  Participation in activities at ESU and in the community are considered.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee.

Ritchey J. Ricci '65 M'72 and Roberta "Bobbi" Ricci '66 Nursing Endowed Scholarship
Established by Ritchey J. Ricci '65 M'72 and Roberta "Bobbi" Ricci '66, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Recipients must be undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credits.  Additionally, recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  The scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient continues to meet these criteria.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee.

Marjorie E. Sanderson Endowed Writing Award
Established to honor Dr. Marjorie Sanderson, RN., Ed.D, FAAN past associate Dean for Nursing at East Stroudsburg University, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Awarded each spring semester for that semester.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee.

Nancy Whitley Sisson '68 Nursing Annual Scholarship
Established in memory of Nancy Whitley Sisson '68, former ESU nursing faculty member, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Recipients must be full-time students who have completed a minimum of 60 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0 prior to receiving the scholarship.  Recipients must not graduate prior to May of the award year.  Additionally, the recipient should possess the qualities of compassionate nursing that go above and beyond providing total care to patients and their families.  The recipient should be conscientious, dedicated, diligent, empathetic, friendly, warm, positive, have good listening skills, and truly love what they do as a nurse.  Preference will be given to those with financial need and may or may not be awarded to previous recipient each year.  This scholarship will be awarded in conjunction with the Nancy Whitley Sisson '68 Nursing Endowed Scholarship, to the same student.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Department Scholarship Committee.

Nancy Whitley Sisson '68 Nursing Endowed Scholarship

Established by Dr. Patricia Graham to memorialize her mother’s service and dedication to a career in nursing, recipients must be majoring in Nursing.  Students must have completed at least 60 credits.  Selected by the ESU Nursing Scholarship Committee.

James R. Chamberlain ’69 Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Dr. James Chamberlain '69, former chairperson of the Professional Physical Education Department at ESU, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education in the teaching profession.  Students must have completed at least 96 credits with sound academic progress.  Additionally, recipients must be professionally involved in leadership, committed to serve others in a teaching capacity, and have outstanding interpersonal skills with peers and faculty.  Selected by the ESU Physical Education Scholarship Committee.

David '70 and Bonnie '72 Childs Health and Physical Education Annual Scholarship
Established by David '70 and Bonnie '72 Childs, recipients must be majoring in Health and Physical Education.  Students must be undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credts and who are in good academic and social standing.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required.  The scholarship is renewable as long as funding is available and the recipient continues to meet all criteria.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Class of 1937 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1937, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and demonstrated excellence in academic performance.  Financial need is a consideration.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1938 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1938, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and GPA of 3.0 in their major.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1940 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1940, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have demonstrated academic excellence.   Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1942 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1942, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1945 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1945, recipients must be an undergraduate student preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1947 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1947, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1954 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1954, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Preference will be given to full-time students whose parent or grandparent were a member of the Class of 1954.   Financial need is a consideration but not a requirement.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

 Class of 1955 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1955, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Recipients must be a full-time students, have completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 GPA in their major.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1958 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1958, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following:  Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, Professional and Secondary Education or Special Education.  Must be a full-time student undergraduate student who is a United States citizen, has completed at least 30 credits and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75 and 3.0 GPA in their major.   Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  This scholarship is not available to every department every year.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee for each department listed previously.  

Class of 1962 Annual Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1962, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following: Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, and Secondary or Special Education. Must be a full-time undergraduate student and have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA. The scholarship may not be available to every department every year and is awarded in conjunction with the Class of 1962 Endowed Scholarship (to the same student). Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Class of 1962 Endowed Scholarship
Established by members of the ESU Class of 1962, recipients must be preparing for a teaching career and majoring in one of the following: Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Health Education, Physical Education, and Secondary or Special Education. Must be a full-time undergraduate student and have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0.Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA. The scholarship may not be available to every department every year. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

DeNike Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Howard DeNike ’26, long time ESU faculty member in honor of all the faculty members that attend ESU, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education.  Students must have completed at least 62 credits and exhibit high academic performance.  Additionally, recipients must exhibit leadership ability and can not graduate prior to May of the award year.  Selected by the ESU Physical Education Scholarship Committee.

Stephen '49 and Ramona '48 Domovich Endowed Scholarship
Established by Stephen Domovich '49 in memory of his wife, Ramona Domovich '48, recipients may be majoring in Early Childhood and Elementary Education or Physical Education.  Recipients must be undergraduate students who have completed at least 60 credits with a minimum ESU GPA of 3.0.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Deborah Gebhardt '69 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Deborah L. Gebhardt '69, recipients must be majoring in Exercise Science or Physical Education.  Recipients must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have completed at least 60 credits.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required.  The scholarship is renewable for up to two years provided the recipient continues to meet all criteria.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Donald '56 and Marge Griffith Endowed Scholarship
Established by Donald ’56 and Marge ’59 Griffith, recipients must be majoring in Elementary Education or Physical Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Additionally, recipients must be full-time students.  Financial need is a consideration, but not a requirement.  This scholarship is renewable provided the recipient continues to be enrolled full-time and maintains at least a 2.5 GPA.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Vicki Moldovan ’72 Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Vicki Moldovan ’72, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education. Students must have completed at least 60 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Additionally, recipients must be female and participate in a varsity sport at ESU. Selected by the ESU Physical Education Scholarship Committee.

Pinky O’Neil '57 Honorary Ms. Senior America Annual Scholarship
Established by Sandra “Pinky” Fees O’Neil ’57, recipients must be majoring in Health Education, Physical Education or Health and Physical Education Teacher Certification. Recipients must have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum 2.75 GPA with preference given to female students. Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required. The scholarship is renewable as long as the student continues to meet all criteria. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Pinky O’Neil '57 Honorary Ms. Senior America Endowed Scholarship

Thomas F. and Charmaine (Adams) '73 Reider Annual Scholarship
Established by Thomas F. and Charmaine (Adams) '73 Reider, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education, Health Education or Exercise Science.  Recipients may be undergraduate or graduate students who are in good academic and social standing.  Preference will be given to students with financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) but it is not required.  The scholarship is renewable.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Darleen Schaare Schott '63 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Darleen Schaare Schott ’63, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education with preference given to Physical Education majors. Recipients must be female students in good academic and social standing. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Frank D. and Marjorie C. Sills Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Frank D. Sills, president of ESU (1968 – 1970) and former dean of Health Sciences and Physical Education, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education.  Students must have completed at least 96 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.2.  Two awards will be given each spring for the following fall semester, one to a male student and one to a female student.  Additionally, recipients must be active participants in sports, intramurals, clubs, or other organizations and must participate in and make contributions to the professional field through working with various groups in the field of Physical Education.  Selected by the ESU Physical Education Scholarship Committee.

Marian Smith '70 Memorial Annual Scholarship
Established in memory of Marian Smith '70, recipients must be undergraduate students majoring in Physical Education.  Recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is preferred but not required.  The scholarship is renewable as long as the recipint continues to meet all criteria and funding is available.  Selected by the ESU Physical Education Scholarship Committee.

Tichy Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Michael W. Tichy ’48 and his wife Dr. Anna Mae Tichy, recipients must be majoring in Physical Education or Health Education.  Students must have completed at least 30 credits at ESU with a minimum 2.5 GPA.  Additionally, recipients must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students who will not graduate before the end of the spring semester of the academic year for which the scholarship is awarded.  Real and evident financial need (not formula need) shall be a factor only in the case of equally qualified candidates.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.

Diana E. Weaver '57 Annual Scholarship
Established by Diana E. Weaver '57, recipients must be majoring in Health Education or Physical Education.  Students may be undergraduate or graduate students.  Undergraduate students must have completed at least 30 credits.  Recipients must be in good academic and social standing.  Recipients may receive the scholarship in subsequent years provided it is available and they continue to meet all criteria.
