Troiani Sweeney Lecture Series 2022

Nearly 170 attended the Troiani-Sweeney Endowed Fund lecture on October 27, 2022. Among those in attendance were honorary guests, from left: Kenneth Long, ESU Interim President; Sam Niedbala ’82; Dr. Neti Nilesh Vora, keynote speaker; Linda Niedbala ’83; Denise Seigart, Dean, ESU College of Health Sciences, and Rich Santoro, Executive Director of the ESU Foundation.

For the tenth year, East Stroudsburg University, in collaboration with the ESU Foundation, hosted the Troiani-Sweeney Endowed Fund Lecture Series, which honors Yvonne Troiani-Sweeney ’78. Sweeney dedicated her life to her nursing career that spanned 30 years. She became an inspiration to others for the incredible level of care she delivered every day.

Eleven years ago, Sweeney was diagnosed with a form of early onset dementia called posterior cortical atrophy. Support came in many ways from Sweeney’s family. Her sister, Linda Niedbala ’83, with the help of her husband, Sam Niedbala ’82, started the Troiani-Sweeney Endowed Fund Lecture Series at ESU in March 2014. The Niedbalas wanted this initiative to be a lasting tribute to Sweeney’s devotion to others while making a significant contribution to the education of health care professionals and the community-at-large about the cognitive impairment associated with dementia and other diseases of a similar nature.

This year’s lecture was held on Thursday, October 27, 2022, and featured speaker Dr. Neti Nilesh Vora. Dr. Vora’s keynote address was titled “Alzheimer’s Disease: Innovations and New Directions.” Nearly 170 guests were in attendance, and a reception followed the presentation.
