The East Stroudsburg University Foundation is pleased to announce it has received a $17,000 grant from AllOne Charities, based in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. These funds will support hearing and speech/language screenings for at-risk children through the East Stroudsburg University Speech and Hearing Clinic.
The grant award will allow the clinic to purchase the necessary equipment to screen preschoolers for hearing loss and speech/language delays. The grant will also allow funding for a part-time staff member who will be certified in speech-language pathology or audiology to supervise the graduate students conducting the screenings.
The screenings will identify children with hearing and speech/language problems at an early age. If these problems go undetected, they can lead to communication, reading, social, and academic issues throughout children’s lives. The clinic is committed to enhancing children’s wellbeing and healthy development.
“I am so thankful to AllOne Charities for supporting our mission of identifying at-risk children for hearing and speech/language delays. Early treatment will have a life-long positive impact on these children’s lives,” said Dr. Susan Dillmuth-Miller, ESU associate professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders. “Without support, we would not be able to continue this service to our community.”
Organizations like AllOne Charities who support the ESU Foundation help to make ESU a better place for students and the local community.
“We are so grateful for AllOne Charities’ partnership and support,” said Rich Santoro, ESU Foundation executive director. “Their grant award will greatly impact many lives in profound ways.”
