Established in honor of Cecilia S. Cohen, recipients must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in the arts and service to the art programs at East Stroudsburg University.  Recipients must also be enrolled as full-time, undergraduate students during both of the semesters of the award year, completed at least 30 credits at ESU and have a minimum 3.0 QPA in art coursework.  Selected by the ESU Art Department Scholarship Committee.



Excellence in the Arts Award



Established by supporters of the arts, recipients must demonstrate outstanding achievement in art. Recipients must be juniors or seniors with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 and minimum 3.50 QPA in courses in which the scholarship is awarded. Additionally, recipients must have completed five or more courses in art. Selected by the ESU Arts Department Scholarship Committee.



Three Sisters: Irene Mitchel, Helen Mitchel Stetz, Mary Mitchel Kurello Annual Scholarship



Established by Dr. Irene Mitchel, Professor Emeritus of the ESU Art Department in memory of her beloved sisters, Helen Mitchel Stetz and Mary Mitchel Kurello, recipients must have a declared major in any concentration within the B.A. in Fine Arts, or B.A. in Art & Design program. Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credits at ESU and at least 24 credits in courses with the designation of Art with a minimum QPA of 3.2 in courses with the designation of Art. Additionally, recipients must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in Fine Arts and/or Art History and service to the art department and university. This scholarship is not automatically renewable, but nothing shall prevent the same student from receiving the scholarship in subsequent years if they continue to meet the criteria and the scholarship is available. Balakrishna Rao Entomology Annual Scholarship



Established by Dr. Balakrishna Rao, recipients must be majoring in Biological Sciences with an interest in Entomology as demonstrated by completing a minimum of two classes on the subject. Recipients may be full-time or part-time students. Undergraduate students must have completed at least 90 credits but there is no credit restriction on graduate students. A minimum QPA of 3.0 is required. Selected by the ESU Biological Sciences Department Scholarship Committee.



Dr. Hussain G. Malik Endowed Scholarship - Available for 2014-2015



Established by Dr. Hussain G. Malik, recipients must be majoring in Biology with a Pre-Medicine concentration.  Recipients must be full-time students with documented financial need as determined by FAFSA.  Selected by the ESU Biological Sciences Department Scholarship Committee.

Established in honor of Margaret A. Rosa ’83, recipients must be ESU students with a declared major in Biology with a concentration in Pre-Medicine.  Recipients must demonstrate school spirit, community service and active social involvement as attested by at least two faculty and/or staff members of ESU.  Recipients must be at least a junior (have completed at least 60 undergraduate credits) before the semester in which the scholarship is given, with a minimum overall QPA of 3.2.  Recipients must be full-time, female students who are active and participating members of the Pre-Med Club.  Selected by the ESU Biology Department Scholarship Committee.



James C. Rutherford, Jr. ’09 Biology Graduate Endowed Scholarship
- Available for 2014-2015



Established in memory of James C. Rutherford, Jr. ’09, recipients must be ESU graduate students majoring in Biology with preference given to students with an emphasis on conservation/field work who are working on their thesis or 1 credit research project.  Recipients are highly encouraged to present their research and its findings at a biological conference or have their research available for presentation if they are unable to present.  Selected by the ESU Biology Department Scholarship Committee.

Communication Studies Endowed Scholarship



Established by members of the ESU Communication Studies Department, recipients must be Communication Studies majors who show exceptional academic abilities and promise in the studies of Human Communication.  Top juniors are preferred candidates.  Recipients must be enrolled full-time, have completed at least 62 credits with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 and minimum QPA of 3.4 in the major.  Selected by the ESU Communication Studies Scholarship Committee.



Gretchen Fee Jackson ’02 Annual Scholarship



Established in honor of Gretchen Fee Jackson ’02, recipients must be majoring in Communication Studies.  Recipients must be undergraduate students with a minimum QPA of 2.75 and financial need as determined by FAFSA.  Preference will be given to first generation college students.  Selected by the ESU Communication Studies Scholarship Committee.



Dale Snow Endowed Award



Established in memory of Dale Snow, coordinator of the Institute of Communication Studies, recipients must be majoring in Theatre and/or Communication Studies.  Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students and must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency, professionalism, and continuing commitment in theatre and/or speech communication arts at ESU.  Recipients must have completed a minimum of 30 credits at ESU and have at least a 3.0 QPA in the major.  Selected by the ESU Theatre Department Scholarship Committee and the ESU Communication Department Scholarship Committee on an alternating basis.

Weiler Corporation Annual Scholarship - Available for Spring 2014 



Established by the Weiler Family Foundation, recipients must be majoring in Computer Science.  Students must have completed their first semester as a Computer Science major and have demonstrated academic merit.  Additionally, students must be a graduate of a Monroe County, Pa., high school.  Financial need is a consideration.  Selected by the ESU Computer Science Scholarship Committee.



Sheldon J. Snyder ’86 Memorial Endowed Scholarship - Available for 2014-2015



Established in memory of Sheldon J. Snyder ’86, recipients must be declared majors in Computer Science.  Recipients must be undergraduate students and not possess a prior Bachelor’s Degree.  Recipients must be juniors or seniors during the period for which the award is made and have a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 and 3.25 QPA in their major coursework.  The recipient must continue to meet all criteria throughout the award period to remain qualified.  Selected by the ESU Computer Science Scholarship Committee.



Dr. Richard Prince Endowed Scholarship in Computer Science - Available for 2014-2015



Established in honor of Dr. Richard G. Established in the name of Constantinos Christofides, Distinguished Professor of Economics, recipients must be majoring in Economics. Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0, as well as, a minimum QPA of 3.0 in the major. Additionally, recipients must have completed at least 60 credits with at least 15 credits in Economics classes. Kenneth E. and Charlotte M. Starner Endowed Scholarship - Available for Spring 2014 



Established in honor of Kenneth E. and Charlotte M. Starner, recipients must be majoring in Economics or Management.  Recipients must have completed at least 62 credits with a minimum of 48 of those credits completed at ESU with eight of those courses having an EMGT or ECON rubric.  A minimum overall QPA of 3.25 is required.  Financial need is a consideration, but not a requirement.  Selected by the ESU Economics Department Scholarship Committee.

Gallagher & Gallagher Endowed Scholarship - Available for 2014-2015



Established by Daisy M. Gallagher, President of Gallagher & Gallagher Marketing and Advertising, recipients must be full-time or part-time undergraduate ESU students majoring in English and/or Communication Studies who plan a career in public relations, advertising or marketing communications.  Recipients must have completed at least 30 credits at ESU including two professional writing classes with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0.  Selected by the ESU English Department Scholarship Committee.



Leah Gumpper ’01 Memorial Poetry Annual Scholarship - Available for 2014-2015



Established in memory of Leah Gumpper, a 2001 summa cum laude graduate of the ESU English Department, a writer and a poet, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be full-time students who show promise in writing, especially poetry.  A minimum QPA of 2.75 is required.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU English Department Scholarship Committee.

Jeanne McFall Turtzo ’38 Environmental Studies Endowed Scholarship

Established by Jeanne McFall Turtzo ’38, recipients must be majoring in Environmental Studies.  Recipients must have attained at least sophomore status, but not possess a bachelor’s degree in any field.  Recipients must have a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 and 3.20 QPA in coursework related to Environmental Studies.  Renewable as long as all criteria continues to be met.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Environmental Studies Scholarship Committee.

Established to provide support to first year Master’s degree students enrolled in the Professional Science master’s Degree Program, recipients must be enrolled in the Professional Science master’s Degree Program with a concentration in Geographic Information Systems. Dr. John C. Appel Endowed Scholarship Available for 2014-2015



Established by members of the ESU History Department in memory of the late Professor John C. Appel, this scholarship is to provide academic scholarships for entering graduate students and History or Social Studies majors at the undergraduate level.  The intent of the founders is that the scholarships be used to encourage majors and minors to broaden their horizons and enhance their credentials.  Recipients must have completed 30 credits by the end of the spring semester; six of those credits must have been completed in History.  Graduate applicants must be enrolled in History 570:  Introduction of Research or have completed nine credit hours in graduate level history (including History 570) with a QPA of 3.2 or better.  The minimum QPA of 2.5 for undergraduates and 3.2 for graduates is required.  Selected by the ESU History Department Scholarship Committee.



Sarah Amanda Denlinger Endowed Scholarship



Established in honor of Sarah Amanda Denlinger, recipients must be majoring in Social Studies with first preference given to History majors and second preference given to Political Science majors. Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credits at the time of their selection with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0. Additionally, priority will be given to students from the following Pennsylvania counties in order of preference: 1st preference – Monroe, 2nd preference – Lehigh, 3rd preference – Carbon, and 4th preference – Northampton. This scholarship is renewable as long as the recipient continues to meet all criteria. Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required. History Department Annual Scholarship Available for Spring 2014 



Established in the name of the History Department, recipients must be majoring in History at ESU (any track). Recipients must be undergraduate students who have attained at least junior status and have completed at least 30 credit hours at ESU with a minimum 2.5 QPA. Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required. Selected by the ESU History Department Scholarship Committee.



George Edward and Grace Rapp Best Memorial Endowed Scholarship - Available for 2014-2015 Click here to download an application



Established through the estate of George Edward Best, recipients must have formally declared their major field of study to be History.  Any recipient who fails to continue to meet all scholarship criteria throughout the award period, or who received a grade of “c” or below in any course while a recipient of this scholarship, shall forfeit remaining funds and be declared ineligible for future candidacy for this scholarship.  Recipients must sophomores with a minimum overall QPA of 3.4.  This scholarship is renewable from sophomore to junior year provided all criteria are met.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



William D. McFadden Endowed Scholarship Available for Spring 2014 



Established in memory of William McFadden, an ESU history professor, recipients must be majoring in History or Social Studies.  Recipients must be graduating seniors who demonstrate scholarship, leadership and human concern, which were qualities of Professor McFadden.  Selected by the ESU APSCUF Scholarship Committee.

Established in the name of Anna Christene French, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major. Recipients must be members of the ESU Warrior Marching Band and at least one additional band ensemble at ESU who have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0. Financial need is not required. Selected by the ESU Foundation President and CEO.



Music Performance Service Annual Scholarships



Provided by the ESU Foundation to students who participate and make contributions to the band and choral performances at East Stroudsburg University, recipients may be enrolled in any major.  Selected by the ESU director of bands, director of choral programs and director of vocal studies.



Kathryn A. Mullins Memorial Annual Band Scholarship



Established in memory of Kathryn A. Mullins, recipients may be from any major but must be a member of the Warrior Marching Band.  Recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior that has demonstrated leadership or outstanding performance during their previous experience with the ESU Marching Band.  Selected by the director of the marching band.



Robert L. Wehe, Jr. Vocal Studies Annual Scholarship



Established by Robert L. Wehe, Jr., recipients must be studying Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students who are active members of the ESU Concert Choir, as well as, A Cappella Ensemble or Pop/Jazz Singers before and during the semester in which the scholarship is awarded. Recipients must have attained sophomore status (have completed at least 30 undergraduate credits) before the semester in which the scholarship is awarded and maintain a minimum overall QPA of 3.0. Selected by the ESU vocal performance faculty coordinator with approval of the chair of the Music Department.

Established in memory of Margaret Miller Masker and Henry Eugene Masker, recipients must be majoring in Earth Space Science. Recipients must be full-time students who are U.S. citizens and show a promise to succeed. Additionally, recipients must be completing their sophomore year in the spring semester in which they are selected and be returning to ESU the following academic year as a junior. A minimum overall QPA of 2.5 is required with at least a 3.0 QPA in the major. Financial need is a consideration, but not a requirement. Established in memory of Joseph J. McGee, recipients may be full-time or part-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Political Science.  The award is based on academic potential.  Selected by the ESU Political Science Department Scholarship Committee.



Political Science/Public Administration Graduate Annual Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 



Established by Dr. Jeffrey Weber, Professor and Chair of the ESU Political Science Department, recipients must be enrolled in the Masters programs for Political Science or Management and Leadership Public Administration. Recipients may be either full-time or part-time students. Selected by the ESU Political Science Scholarship Committee.

Evelyn and Valerie Hodge Memorial Endowed Scholarship Available for 2014-2015



Established by the three daughters of Evelyn Hodge to honor her life and memory and to promote the principles and ideals that she espoused her three daughters.  Evelyn Hodge was a single parent who instilled in her three daughters the essential values of commitment, tenacity, hard work and academic achievement.  She was firm in her conviction and belief that education was truly the key to the door of opportunity and success for all individuals.  Her daughter, Valerie Hodge, provided leadership in her position of Vice President for Student Affairs at ESU until her passing.  Recipients must be Psychology majors who have demonstrated active participation in either Psi Chi, the Psychology Honor Society; or the Student Psychological Association and other university-wide organizations.  Recipients must have completed a minimum of 64 credits with at least an overall QPA of 2.75 and 3.0 QPA in the major.  Selected by the ESU Psychology Department Scholarship Committee.









Sociology




Alice de Coppens Sociology Endowed Scholarship



Established in honor of Alice de Coppens, recipients must be Sociology majors with a genuine interest in the future growth of Sociology with an interdisciplinary, or holistic approach, that includes the spiritual dimension.  The recipient should be an efficient worker who is responsible, conscientious, and performs quality work while at the same time, have a commitment to people, a warm heart, and a willingness to help others.  Recipients must have completed at least 12 credits in Sociology, be a student in good standing with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 and minimum 3.25 QPA in the major, and plan to graduate from ESU.  Selected by the ESU Sociology Scholarship Committee.



Fraternal Order of Police Endowed Scholarship



Established by the Fraternal Order of Police, recipients must be ESU students studying Criminal Justice.  Recipients must be a graduate of a Monroe County high school who has demonstrated academic excellence in the field of Criminal Justice.  Selected by the ESU Criminal Justice Department Scholarship Committee.









Theatre
 




J. J. Brennan Endowed Award for Theatre Excellence



Established by J. J. Brennan, recipients must have demonstrated a commitment to the theatre program at ESU along with clearly indicating the intention of pursuing a career in theatre professionally and/or academically.  Recipients must be a graduating senior or one who is reasonably close to graduation if a qualified graduating senior is not available and have completed at least 45 credits at ESU with a minimum QPA of 3.0.  Selected by the ESU Theatre Department Scholarship Committee.



Cecilia S. Cohen Theatre Endowed Scholarship



Established in honor of Cecilia S. Cohen, recipients must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in the theatre arts and service to the theatre programs at East Stroudsburg University.  Recipients must also be enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate students during both semesters of the award year, completed at least 30 credits at ESU and have a minimum 3.0 QPA in theatre coursework.  Selected by the ESU Theatre Department Scholarship Committee.



Phoenix Players Endowed Scholarship



Established by members of the Phoenix Player’s, recipients must be enrolled in theatre courses at ESU.  Recipients must demonstrate a high quality level of theatrical performance either on-stage or backstage.  Serious interest in continuing to contribute to the overall success of the ESU theatre program, both performance-wise and technically should be displayed.  The awardee will work throughout the school year to maintain the spirit and performance efficiency of the theatre program, and must perform each semester in a production, either onstage or backstage.  The recipient must be enrolled full-time during both semesters of the award year and have completed at least two semesters at ESU with a minimum QPA of 3.0 in theatre courses at ESU. Selected by the ESU Theatre Department Scholarship Committee.



Excellence in the Arts Award



Established by supporters of the arts, recipients must demonstrate outstanding achievement in theatre. Recipients must be juniors or seniors with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 and minimum 3.50 QPA in courses in which the scholarship is awarded. Additionally, recipients must have completed five or more courses in theatre. Selected by the ESU Theatre Department Scholarship Committee.



Dale Snow Endowed Award



Established in memory of Dale Snow, coordinator of the Institute of Communication Studies, recipients must be majoring in Theatre and/or Communication Studies.  Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students and must have demonstrated a high level of proficiency, professionalism, and continuing commitment in theatre and/or speech communication arts at ESU.  Recipients must have completed a minimum of 30 credits at ESU and have at least a 3.0 QPA in the major.  Selected by the ESU Theatre Department Scholarship Committee and the ESU Communication Department Scholarship Committee on an alternating basis.
