Alumni Association Diverse Student Annual Scholarship

Established by the ESU Alumni Association, recipients may be any undergraduate major.  Must be diverse students enrolled full-time.  The scholarship is renewable for up to one additional year providing the recipient is enrolled at ESU full-time, maintains a minimum QPA of 3.0.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



APSCUF Annual Scholarship


Established by APSCUF (Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties), recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients will be selected upon the basis of academic record, campus activity, community service, career goals, financial need and letters of recommendation.  Recipients must have completed at least 12 credits at ESU and no more than 90 credit hours at time of application with a minimum QPA of 3.0.  Financial need is a consideration.  Selected by the ESU APSCUF Scholarship Committee.



John L.C., Jr. and Mary L. Bachofer Annual Scholarship 

Established by John L.C., Jr. and Mary L. Bachofer, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major. Recipients must be full-time students that have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5. Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



John L.C., Jr. and Mary L. Bachofer Endowed Scholarship

Established by John L.C., Jr. and Mary L. Bachofer, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients must be full-time students that have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Gertrude Mary Smith Boddie ’04 Endowed Scholarship


Established in memory of Gertrude Mary Smith Boddie, class of 1904, the first student of color to graduate at East Stroudsburg University, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients must be full-time students who have attained sophomore status with a minimum QPA of 2.5.  Additionally, recipients must document a commitment to social justice through community and/or university service.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Breakfast Scholarship Committee.



Jeanne Luckenbill Bowers ’54 Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Jeanne Luckenbill Bowers ’54, recipients must be female students with a declared major in Education. Recipients must be full-time students with preference given to students from Berks County, Pa. Additionally, recipients must have completed at least 30 credits at ESU with a minimum 3.0 QPA. This scholarship is renewable provided the recipient continues to meet all criteria. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Rosemarie Cauthers ’52 Annual Scholarship

Established in memory of Rosemarie Cauthers ’52, recipients may be enrolled in any Education major at ESU. Recipients must be full-time students and may be undergraduate or graduate students who have a minimum QPA of 3.0. Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.




BPO Elks #319 Annual Scholarship

Established by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #319 Club, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU. Recipients must have completed at least 30 credits and be in good academic and social standing. Additionally, recipients must have graduated from any Monroe County high school and be presently active in a Monroe County volunteer organization or community service club (i.e. Lions, Rotary, Elks, etc.). The scholarship will be awarded to a different student each year. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Anita VanVliet Breitwieser Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Dr. Thomas and Mrs. Anita Van Vliet Breitwieser, recipients must be full-time ESU students of any undergraduate or graduate major that have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 3.0.  Preference will be given to students from Monroe County, Pa.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required and is the primary factor.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



C. Y. Cheng Endowed Scholarship for International Understanding

Established by Dr. C. Y. Cheng, professor of Chemistry and his wife, Mrs. Cheng, to promote international understanding among students at ESU.  Recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate major and be in good academic standing.  Recipients must have made noticeable contributions to international understanding at ESU.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Mr. Roger A. Dunning ’38 and Dr. E. Ruth Dunning Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of brothers, Roger A. Dunning ’38 and Gilbert E. Dunning ’43, recipients may be undergraduate or graduate students who demonstrated academic potential.  Preference will be given to students preparing for a career in teaching.  Additional preference will be given to students from Monroe County, Pa.  Recipients may be full-time or part-time students.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required and is a primary factor in the selection process.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Emergency Annual Scholarship

Established anonymously to assist ESU students facing a serious deficit of personal funds to continue their education, recipients must be undergraduate students of any major.  Recipients may be full-time or part-time students who have completed at least 30 credits at ESU and who are in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Anna Christene French Memorial Band Annual Scholarship

Established in the name of Anna Christene French, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major. Recipients must be members of the ESU Warrior Marching Band and at least one additional band ensemble at ESU who have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0. Financial need is not required. Selected by the ESU Foundation President and CEO.



Dr. James E. and Mrs. Betty B. Gilbert Endowed Scholarship

Established by Dr. James E. Gilbert, the 11th President of East Stroudsburg University, and his wife, Mrs. Betty B. Gilbert, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be single mothers enrolled for six or more undergraduate credits.  Recipients must have completed a minimum of 12 credits at ESU with at least an overall QPA of 2.5.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Leah Gumpper ’01 Memorial Poetry Annual Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 

Established in memory of Leah Gumpper, a 2001 summa cum laude graduate of the ESU English Department, a writer and a poet, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be full-time students who show promise in writing, especially poetry.  A minimum QPA of 2.75 is required.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU English Department Scholarship Committee.



Honors Program Annual Scholarship

Provided by the ESU Foundation, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients must currently be a member of the Honors Program and have taken at least one honors course each semester.  Additionally, the recipients must be committed to staying in the program.  A minimum QPA of 3.3 is required.  Selected by the ESU Honors Program Scholarship Committee.



Ardath E. Houser ’49 Endowed Scholarship
Available for 2014-2015 

Established by Dean Ardath E. Houser ’49, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients must be full-time students during both semesters of the academic year.  Additionally, recipients must have been active members of their perspective Residence Hall Council for at least two semesters and must have demonstrated effective leadership and involvement in the Residence Hall Association.  Recipients must have completed at least 30 credits at ESU with a minimum QPA of 2.25.  Selected by the Residence Hall Scholarship Committee.



Housing Authority of Monroe County Annual Scholarship

Established by the Housing Authority of Monroe County, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be residents of either the Section 8 program or Public Housing program of the Housing Authority of Monroe County and full-time students at ESU in good academic and social standing.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



R. Dale and Frances Hughes Foundation Endowed Scholarship


Established by the R. Dale and Frances Hughes Foundation, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU. Recipients must be full-time students who have completed at least 60 credits with a minimum 3.0 QPA. Additionally, recipients must be graduates of a Monroe County, Pa. high school. Preference will be given to students with financial need as determined by FAFSA. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Bo Keppel Upward Bound Leadership Annual Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 

Established by Bo Keppel, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be Upward Bound alumni at the beginning, at least, of their sophomore year at ESU, and are required to have demonstrated leadership during the previous year or years at ESU.  Selected by the Upward Bound Department Scholarship Committee.



Phyllis Kistler Endowed Scholarship

Established by Professor Phyllis Kistler , recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Preference will be given to the non-traditional student who demonstrates a high level of professional performance, service to the University, and service to the community at large.  Recipients must have completed at least 30 credits of college course work, maintained a minimum overall QPA of 3.0 at ESU, and be enrolled full-time.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Minda L. Krawitz ’84 Endowed Scholarship


Established in honor of Minda L. Krawitz ’84, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must have a documented learning disability and have completed a minimum of 12 credits with a minimum overall QPA of 2.3.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Dr. Richard W. Leland Theta Chi Endowed Scholarship
Available for 2014-2015 

Established in honor of Dr. Richard W. Leland, recipients may be enrolled in any major at ESU.  Recipients must be full-time students and members in good standing of the Eta Pi Chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity.  Selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Eta Pi Chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity at ESU.



Sandra H. Lingenfelter Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Established by Marcus Lingenfelter '95 in memory ofhis mother, Sandra H. Lingenfelter, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Candidates must submit an essay relating how they were not exemplary students in high school, but came to ESU and turned themselves around to achieve some measure of success.  Recipients must be involved with activities such as athletics, student clubs, or leadership organizations who have completed a minimum of 62 credits with at least an overall QPA of 3.3.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Therese M. Macaluso ’87 Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Therese M. Macaluso ’87, recipients must be Education majors.  Preference will be given to non-traditional students (over age 21) returning to college from the workforce majoring in Education.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required and will be given primary consideration.  Recipients must be incoming freshmen.  Selected by the ESU Admissions Office.




Dean Eugene H. Martin Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of Dean Eugene H. Martin, ESU Dean of Men, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be full-time students with exceptional leadership abilities in campus organization(s).  Preference given to students who demonstrated leadership in varied activities and to those who provide service in the community.  Recipient must have completed at least 62 credits with a minimum overall QPA of 2.8.  Renewable for one additional year provided the criteria continue to be met.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Mattioli Recreation Center Endowed Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 

Established in honor of the Mattioli family, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be full-time students with a minimum 2.5 QPA.  Additionally, recipients must demonstrate leadership and a spirit of dedication to recreation and healthy lifestyles.  Preference to be given to individuals who participate in, or volunteer for, the Mattioli Recreation Center programs.  Selected by the Leadership Team of the Mattioli Recreation Center.



Moses Society Resident Advisor Endowed Scholarship

Established in honor of Robert Moses, Director of Residence Life and Housing, recipients may be from any major but must be a Resident Advisor (RA).  Recipients must currently demonstrate exemplary performance in the Resident Advisor position and be a fall semester RA who is returning to their RA position for the Spring semester.  Academic performance and financial need are also considerations.  Selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Office of Residence Life.



Kathryn A. Mullins Memorial Annual Band Scholarship

Established in memory of Kathryn A. Mullins, recipients may be from any major but must be a member of the ESU Marching Band.  Recipient must be a sophomore, junior or senior that has demonstrated leadership or outstanding performance during their previous experience with the ESU Marching Band.  Selected by the director of the marching band.



Patt Mullins Memorial Band Annual Scholarship

Established in memory of Patt Mullins, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major. Recipients must be a member of the ESU Warrior Marching Band who has demonstrated leadership or outstanding performance during their previous experience with the ESU Warrior Marching Band. Additionally, recipients must have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5. Selected by the Director of the ESU Warrior Marching Band.



Music Performance Service Band Annual Scholarship

Established by the ESU Foundation, recipients may be from any major.  Recipients must participate and make contributions to the band performances at ESU.  Selected by the ESU Music Department Scholarship Committee.



Music Performance Service Choral Annual Scholarship

Established by the ESU Foundation, recipients may be from any major.  Recipients must participate and make contributions to the choral performances at ESU.  Selected by the ESU Music Department Scholarship Committee.



Music Performance Service Vocal Annual Scholarship

Established by the ESU Foundation, recipients may be from any major.  Recipients must participate and make contributions to the vocal performances at ESU.  Selected by the ESU Music Department Scholarship Committee.

Provided by the ESU Parents, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major and must have completed at least 30 credits at ESU with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Recipients must not receive any individual scholarship exceeding $1,500 during the academic year for which this scholarship is awarded; if so, the Parents Scholarship may be revoked. Applicants judged as not in good standing with the University's Code of Conduct may be eliminated from consideration. Criteria for selection: 1. Extracurricular involvement; leadership roles; volunteer or community service, 2. Financial need (current year's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Enrollment Services), 3. Academic achievement, 4. Extraordinary circumstances/responsibilities. Selected by the ESU Parents Scholarship Committee.




Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees Annual Scholarship

Established by the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, recipients must be majoring in Elementary or Secondary Education at ESU. Recipients must exhibit qualities of motivation, initiative and creativity, be a graduate of a Monroe County Public School District (East Stroudsburg, Stroudsburg, Pocono Mountain or Pleasant Valley), be willing and able to attend the PASR Monroe Chapter Fall Luncheon or a school board meeting to accept the scholarship award, and be a resident of Monroe County. Recipients should have an exemplary academic record. Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU) Annual Scholarship

Established by the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union, recipients can be any undergraduate major.  Recipients must be a member in good standing with PSECU who can document all of their University and community activities and demonstrate a commitment to community service.  Recipients must have completed at least 62 credits with a minimum overall QPA of 2.6.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Prince Hall Endowed Scholarship

Established to motivate Prince Hall students to consider higher education, to provide enrollment incentive for talented and service-oriented urban students, to enhance in the recruitment and retention of students who contribute to a socially and culturally diverse campus, and to demonstrate ESU’s commitment to social equity and cultural diversity.  Recipients must have been selected as a Prince Hall Scholar upon graduating from Prince Hall School which is located in Philadelphia.  Student must predict a 2.3 QPA as a University student and/or have a combined SAT score of 850 or above.  Student must also demonstrate a strong civic responsibility through notable community service.  Selected by the Prince Hall Scholarship Committee at ESU.



Anna Quainoo International Student Annual Scholarship

Established in the name of Anna Quainoo, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate major at ESU. Recipients must be international students with a minimum overall QPA of 2.8. Selected by a committee established through the ESU Office of International Programs.




Glenn and Sue Ann Reibman Annual Scholarship 

Established by Glenn and Sue Ann Reibman, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must be full-time students with a minimum QPA of 3.0 who have not received any other financial aid.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Margaret A. Rosso Annual Scholarship

Established in memory of Margaret A. Rosso, recipients may be in any undergraduate or graduate major at ESU.  Recipients must have a minimum overall QPA of 2.75 with preference given to students that demonstrate service to their school or community.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs Annual Scholarship

Established by the Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs, recipients may be in any undergraduate major at ESU.  Recipients must have graduated from either Stroudsburg or East Stroudsburg School Districts and have demonstrated academic ability and special talents of abilities during high school.  Preference is given to students that participate in Rotary Club programs.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



John Gudikunst Sigma Pi Beta Psi Annual Scholarship


Established in the name of John Gudikunst by members of the Sigma Pi Beta Psi Fraternity to assist ESU students who are members of the Beta Psi Chapter of the Sigma Pi Fraternity, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients must be full-time students in good academic and social standing.  Selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Beta Psi Chapter of the Sigma Pi Fraternity at East Stroudsburg University with the procedure affirmed by the Fraternity advisor.



Stony Acres Annual Scholarship


Established by the Board of Directors of Stony Acres, recipients may be majoring in Recreation & Leisure Services Management, Biology, Environmental Studies or Movement Studies and Exercise Science.  Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students who are involved with activities that further the related mission of Stony Acres.  Preference given to students who have completed 12 credits in one of the majors indicated.  Must have a minimum overall QPA of 2.75.  Selected by the Stony Acres Board of Directors Scholarship Committee.



Stony Acres Endowed Scholarship


Established by the Board of Directors of Stony Acres, recipients may be majoring in Recreation & Leisure Services Management, Biology, Environmental Studies or Movement Studies and Exercise Science.  Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students who are involved with activities that further the related mission of Stony Acres.  Preference given to students who have completed 12 credits in one of the majors indicated.  Must have a minimum overall QPA of 2.75.  Selected by the Stony Acres Board of Directors Scholarship Committee.



Tannersville Lions Club Annual Scholarship

Established by the Tannersville Lions Club, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate

major at ESU. Recipients must have completed at least 30 credits and be in good academic and social standing. Additionally, recipients must have graduated from Pocono Mountain East High School and be presently active in a Monroe County volunteer organization or community service club (i.e. Lions, Rotary, Elks, etc.). The scholarship will be awarded to a different student each year. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Third Floor Shawnee Hall Alumni Endowed Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 

Established by ESU alumni, former residents of the third floor of Shawnee Hall, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients must be an on-campus resident in any University-owned housing who is actively involved in a constructive extracurricular activity.  Recipients must have completed at least 60 undergraduate credits before the semester in which the scholarship is first given with a minimum overall QPA of 2.5.  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  Selected by the Director of Residence Life.



Don Toth Memorial Class of 1956 Endowed Scholarship

Established in memory of Don Toth ’56, who was the first fatality from Pennsylvania in the Vietnam Conflict, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major.  Recipients must be ESU sophomores who are residents of Pennsylvania, with a minimum QPA of 2.75 and active in at least one extracurricular activity at ESU (sport, theatre, band or other).  Financial need as determined by FAFSA is required.  The scholarship is renewable for up to three years providing all criteria continue to be met.  Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



University Ridge Annual Scholarship

Established in the name of University Ridge, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate major at ESU. Recipients must live or will live at University Ridge with contract as proof. Undergraduate students must have completed at least 30 credits. QPA of at least 3.0 is required. Additionally, financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid is required). Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.



Dr. Ralph Vitello Annual Scholarship

Established in memory of ESU professor Dr. Ralph Vitello, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate major.  Recipients must be registered in a study abroad program in which the student billing is conducted through ESU.  Selected by the ESU Dr. Ralph Vitello Scholarship Committee which is established and maintained through the APSCUF Office.



Dr. Ralph Vitello Endowed Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 

Established in memory of ESU professor Dr. Ralph Vitello, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate major.  Recipients must be registered in a study abroad program in which the student billing is conducted through ESU.  Selected by the ESU Dr. Ralph Vitello Scholarship Committee which is established and maintained through the APSCUF Office.



Robert C. Walker III ’97 Endowed Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 

Established in the name of Robert C. Walker III ’97, to perpetuate Robert’s memory and love and commitment he felt to the Stroud Courier at East Stroudsburg University, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major. Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students with a minimum QPA of 2.0 and a demonstrated love of the writing field. Preference will be given to members of the Stroud Courier staff with two or more semesters of experience. Additionally, preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This scholarship is not automatically renewable, but nothing shall prevent a student from receiving it multiple times if it is available, they reapply and meet the criteria. Selected by the faculty advisor of the Stroud Courier.



WESS Service Award Annual Scholarship

Provided by the ESU Foundation, recipients may be enrolled in any major.  Recipients must hold an elected or appointed office at WESS, must be in good standing with the WESS staff, must commit within reason to continuing to carry out the duties of the office after the award has been received, and must be in good social standing at the time of the award.  A minimum QPA of 2.3 is required.  Selected by the Administrative Council of WESS Radio Station.



Dean Mildred Wheatley Annual Scholarship

Established in memory of Dean Mildred Wheatley, recipients may be enrolled in any undergraduate major. Recipients must be full-time (15 credits per semester), first year students who have completed at least 30 credits with a minimum QPA of 2.5. Additionally, recipients must be active in leadership roles as a freshman and active participants in university activities. Financial need as determined by FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required. Selected by the ESU Scholarship Committee.




Women’s Studies Annual Scholarship


Established in support of the Women’s Studies Program at East Stroudsburg University, recipients must have a declared minor (or major) in Women’s Studies.  Priority will be given to students who have completed nine credits in Women’s Studies at ESU.  Additionally, recipients must possess a demonstrated commitment to social activism on behalf of women.  Recipients may be full-time or part-time students with priority given to students with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0.  Selected by the Women’s Studies Scholarship Committee.



Women’s Studies Endowed Scholarship Available for 2014-2015 

Established in support of the Women’s Studies Program at East Stroudsburg University, recipients must have a declared minor (or major) in Women’s Studies.  Priority will be given to students who have completed nine credits in Women’s Studies at ESU.  Additionally, recipients must possess a demonstrated commitment to social activism on behalf of women.  Recipients may be full-time or part-time students with priority given to students with a minimum overall QPA of 3.0.  Selected by the Women’s Studies Scholarship Committee.
