Major grants propel East Stroudsburg University track renovation project
The East Stroudsburg University Foundation received grants totaling $750,000 from the R. Dale and Frances M. Hughes Foundation and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development to support significant renovations to the university’s indoor and outdoor track and field facilities. State funding for the project was secured through the efforts of Senator Rosemary Brown.
Fundraising for the $1.2 million track renovation project launched in early 2025, spearheaded by a committee of 29 alumni and friends dedicated to advancing campaign goals through outreach, advocacy, and philanthropic leadership. The funding will support planned improvements to the indoor track at Koehler Fieldhouse and the outdoor track at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Both facilities serve as key venues for intercollegiate athletics, academic instruction, youth programming, and community use throughout the year.
“We are grateful for this investment in the future of ESU Athletics and our campus community,” said Dr. Allen Snook, director of athletics. “These grants bring us one step closer to providing enhanced training and competition facilities for our student-athletes while expanding opportunities for camps, clinics and regional events.”
After more than two decades of use, both tracks require updates to meet current NCAA standards and to ensure safe, high-quality conditions for athletes and other users. Planned renovations include installation of NCAA-compliant track surfaces indoors and outdoors, drainage improvements, upgraded safety features, enhanced lane markings, and renovations to field event areas including the pole vault, long and triple jump pits, high jump area, hammer throw cage, and javelin runway.
Construction on both projects began in June and is expected to be complete by mid-summer.
Once completed, the project is expected to strengthen ESU’s ability to host NCAA competitions, including postseason events and invitational meets. The upgrades will also expand access for local schools, camps, clinics, and other community programming.
University officials said the project reflects ESU’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality facilities that support student success, athletic excellence, and community engagement across the region.
Fundraising continues with $137,000 needed to reach the finish line and campaign goal. More information about the campaign, naming opportunities, and ways to contribute is available at: esufoundation.org/campaign-indoor-and-outdoor-tracks.
