Grant enables ESU to upgrade planetarium projection system

East Stroudsburg University installed a new Digistar 7 Fulldome Planetarium System in McMunn Planetarium thanks to a $205,700 grant from the R. Dale and Frances M. Hughes Foundation, based in Stroudsburg, Pa. The Digistar 7 projection system improves performance in academic courses in addition to supporting K-12 group visits, community programming, and institutional recruitment.

The McMunn Planetarium, which is named in honor of ESU supporters Charles A. “Tony” ’69 and Patricia Lythgoe ’68 McMunn, is housed in ESU’s Warren E. ’55 and Sandra Hoeffner Science and Technology Center.

ESU President Kenneth Long gives remarks during the Inaugural Dinner Celebration.

Campus and community festivities for the inauguration of ESU President Kenneth Long included a celebration dinner hosted by the ESU Foundation. Nearly 200 guests attended the dinner held on April 26, 2023, at the Ridgecrest Ballroom at Stroudsmoor Country Inn. Proceeds from the event formed the Creating Opportunities Scholarship Fund, which benefits ESU students.

Warrior Women Who Give

The ESU Foundation launched the women’s philanthropy circle, Warrior Women Who Give, or WWWG, during fiscal year 2022–2023. Through WWWG, women of all ages come together, making professional and personal connections with other participants from a variety of industries and diverse backgrounds. Combining their philanthropic support, the group collaborates to make a significant contribution to ESU and its students.

The WWWG circle includes tiered participation levels with members enjoying participation in meetings, events, business networking, leadership development and community engagement opportunities. More information can be found at www.esufoundation.org/wwwg. 

Athletics, academic golf outings raise funds for programs

Golfers head to their first hole at the 31st Annual Educational Golf Classic to benefit the Prince Hall Endowed Scholarship. The outing, held Aug. 1, 2022, was held for the first time at Green Pond Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.

Many of ESU’s athletic and academic staff collaborated with the ESU Foundation in executing golf outings to fundraise for their respective programs during fiscal year 2022–2023. In total, 838 golfers participated in nine golf outings, resulting in $174,461 in proceeds to benefit the following:

  • Men’s Basketball
  • Women’s Basketball
  • Football
  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Men’s and Women’s Wrestling
  • College of Business & Management
  • Prince Hall Endowed Scholarship
